Having dry, red or itchy skin can all hinder your ability to feel really good about yourself.
So we sat down with an nzgirl and chatted about the ways that she treats her skin with kindness so that she stays looking great and can shine all day long! Check out our five favourite ways below...
Good Enough to Eat
As well as being yummy in porridge with yoghurt and honey, we found out that oatmeal is the perfect solution for easing itchy skin and creating a protective barrier from irritations. You can make an easy soothing facemask by mixing together some oatmeal with chilled natural yoghurt and manuka honey (see it does sound like breakfast!). Simply apply to the affected areas, leave for 10-15 minutes, rinse off and pat dry. The only facial treatment you won't mind getting on your lips! Keep it simple silly! Our friend found that other irritants in her environment were exacerbating her skin’s dryness and itchines. To make sure you're not introducing unnecessary irritants into your environment, we recommend making sure any products you’re using are naturally based and not filled with synthetics, perfumes or irritants. Also, try switching up your washing powder to see if this helps! Non-biological products like EcoStore, B_E_E and Persil Sensitive are worth throwing in the mix to see if you notice a difference.
The Good Fats Maintaining a diet rich in essential fatty acids can help your body treat dry skin from the inside. Essential fatty acids such as those found in avocados, omega 3 supplements, salmon and tuna, flax seed oils and evening primrose oil work to bring oil quickly to the skin’s surface (which is why they help keep your nails and hair looking hot!). Evening Primrose Oil can also be effective when applied directly to your skin or taken in capsule form. Aloe, Aloe! Aloe Vera is one of nature’s wonder plants! You may already be using it for sunburn (or those times when you grab the hot part of your straightener by accident). It’s great in so many ways because it eases pain, cools the area down, drains away excess fluid to reduce inflammation and speeds up the wound healing process. You can pick up a range of topical lotions (or even drink the juice), but we recommend getting yourself a plant and using the sap straight from the leaf! Becoderm-C If you find that your skin condition is caused by milder forms of eczema or dermatitis, it may be time to call in the experts.
