I am a confirmed hater of winter. I have an almost ridiculous fear of the cold. I start shivering like a jelly as soon as that little nip appears in the air, and being a bit of a shortie, I look alarmingly like a penguin as soon as I try to wrap up warmly.
I can’t stand bad weather because it makes me gloomy and bored, I always get colds, and in short am welcoming winter like a hole in the head.
However, I’ve recently realised that it does have perhaps one redeeming feature… the laziness you’re allowed! When it’s chilly, nobody expects you to strut round in a bikini showing off pale goose-pimpled skin, nor do they lust after your unshaven wintery legs in a miniskirt, partly because you’d make them feel even colder just looking at you.
But this has a fantastic bonus - you can let yourself go, and nobody cares!
Say goodbye to that time-consuming, irritating routine of shaving your legs, applying fake tanning goo and exercising regularly, (well actually me and exercise have never really been introduced anyway…but I’m sure you’re all good little gym bunnies I can corrupt); and enjoy the freedom of being lazy!
Sleep in for a bit longer in the weekends, (I find that waiting until the sun is shining works nicely for me), pull out a big fat woolly blanket, find the cat a good book and curl up next to the heater with some biscuits.
You shouldn’t feel guilty about eating comfort food in winter; research has been done on the topic, and it concludes that this is very common. Therefore in theory everybody should gain weight in the same proportions, and you’ll still look fine in comparison to everyone else. Besides, the extra layers will keep you warmer, (there’s the penguin in me coming out again).
If you can’t quite bring yourself to exist in semi-hibernation all winter long, then at least see what you’re missing out on. In fact if you’re in need of assistance, I’ll generously give out my unbelievably delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Have a break. Have a cookie, (or five).
